Weston weekly names and shames ASBO yobs

The Weston & Somerset Mercury has responded to the increasing number of Anti-Social Behaviour Orders being imposed in the town by naming and shaming local troublemakers.

The paper published pictures of seven people with ASBOs in Weston on its front page and named 11 of the 13 people banned from parts of the town.

The Mercury was unable to name two of the 13 troublemakers because of legal reasons.

Reporter Wenna Coombs said: "We did the story with the full help of local police. They gave us the blurbs on the offenders and helped us with the pictures.

"There are a few more coming up who we are hoping to name as well."

The paper reported that more ASBOs have been imposed in and around Weston than across the whole of counties such as Wiltshire, Dorset and Gloucestershire.

Wenna said: "I don't know how it compares to other towns but we do seem to be getting a lot of young teenage tearaways and there seems to be a problem with young offenders."
