A former Edinburgh University academic is claiming that media pessimism about the future of Gaelic could be a factor in the language's demise.
Dr Emily McEwan Fujita examined the media's coverage of Gaelic and Gaelic speakers during 2000 at Edinburgh University's three day Rannsachadh na Gaidhlig (Researching Gaelic) conference.


The Sunday Mercury in Birmingham helped track down a Midland businesswoman wanted for fraud charges - who had been on the run for three years.
An American company boss who read Mercury stories about the case on the Internet told the paper that Gill Hope was living in California, where she now faces extradition to the UK by the FBI.


More than £20,000 has been donated to the Eastern Daily Press in just five days after the paper revealed how newborn babies are being dumped on the streets in the Sudanese capital Kjartoum by their unmarried mothers.
