Martin takes on new role at the Echo

Martin Mammatt has been appointed as assistant editor of the Lincolnshire Echo.

Martin joined the paper in September 1999 as sports editor before becoming chief news design editor for two years.

He has previously worked on newspapers in Matlock, Chesterfield, Burton-on-Trent and Derby.

The vacancy created by Martin has been filled by Barnaby Banks who has in turn been replaced by Ian Barnsley.

Ian joins the design desk from the Echo's sister title the Grimsby Telegraph.

Several other movements at the Echo have also been announced:

• Louise Horne has started as a trainee reporter after spending a year travelling around the world.

• Paul Whitelam has taken up the role of senior reporter after leaving the Northamptonshire Evening Telegraph.

• Steve Kirman has the left the Echo to become a sub-editor on the Grimsby Telegraph.
