London weekly set for relaunch

Docklands News, the London newspaper which ceased trading earlier this year due to production problems, is to be relaunched next month.

Parent company Ivy Communications has announced it is to revive the paper and publish it alongside a new sister title - the independent City and Islington News - which it has now acquired.

The 21-year-old Docklands News closed in April, shortly after moving from publishing monthly to weekly, resulting in its entire staff being made redundant.

Managing director Richard Alvin said: "Previously Ivy Communications owned the Docklands News but didn't produce it. It granted a licence to Docklands Media Ltd which was revoked when problems occurred.

"The Docklands News and the City and Islington News will both be officially relaunched in the last week of August when they will mention the combination of the two titles for the first time."

Both newspapers will continue as free weeklies, with the Docklands News published every Friday and distributed door-to-door and via bulk drops, and the City and Islington News distributed through bulk drops every Tuesday.

Each title will have its own editor and will share editorial, advertising and sales staff. Although they will be separate titles there may be some crossover of news and advertising.

Prior to the relaunch the City and Islington News will continue to be produced in its current form, with the Docklands News also produced in the interim.

  • Ivy Communications's main activity is corporate publishing and it currently has contracts with the London Chamber of Commerce and London Olympic Bid 2012. It also has a specialist division producing knowledge publications.
