Times helps sports charity get on the move

The Harrow Times has helped a local sports charity get on the move with a donation of £1,000.

Harrow Special Olympics, for people with learning disbilities, will use the cash from the weekly newspaper to fund travelling costs for its athletes, who take part in meets across the country.

The money came from the Gannett Foundation, a charitable trust set up by the American parent company of Newsquest, which owns the Harrow Times.

The trust regularly provides funding to support local organisations which operate in the circulation areas of Newsquest titles, and supports projects which take a creative approach to issues such as education, neighbourhood improvements, economic development, youth development and helping disadvantaged people.

Thanking the paper, Kenneth Towns, chairman of Harrow Special Olympics, said the money would help the group to travel further as members took part in a variety of sports to help build self-esteem and social skills.
