Richard Jewson, chairman of regional newspaper publisher Archant, is set to become the new Lord Lieutenant of Norfolk.
Richard, (59), will take on the role in September, succeeding the current Lord Lieutenant, Sir Timothy Colman, who is a former chairman of Eastern Counties Newspaper Group, now Archant.
The Queen appoints the Lord Lieutenant for each county in England and Wales on the advice of the Prime Minister.
Richard will join a distinguished list of men to serve the county in the role, which dates from the 16th century when the holder was responsible for local military defence and the maintenance of order.
The post, which is derived from the position of sheriff, was regarded as temporary and originally only filled in times of social upheaval.
As Lord Lieutenant, Richard will advise on honours nominations, organise and attend any royal visit to the county and represent the Queen at other events where appropriate.
He has been a Deputy Lieutenant for Norfolk since 2000 and was High Sheriff in 2000-2001.
Richard said: "It is a very great privilege and honour and I look forward to serving the county as best I can. Sir Timothy is a very hard act to follow."
