Sub swings his way into sporting spotlight

Mid Devon Gazette series sports writer and sub-editor Jim Bray found himself in the sporting spotlight after landing the top prize at Tiverton Golf Club on Saturday.

The in-form 24-year-old won the club championship after four years as runner-up - twice by just a single shot.

He made it fifth time lucky with solid rounds of 74 and 73 amid a stiff breeze and the odd heavy shower.

Playing off three, Jim is storming through the silverware this year at Tiverton. This was his fourth gross prize in four this year, after winning the Captain's Qualifier Scratch, Amory Scratch and Brayne-Baker open scratch competitions. He also leads the men's Order of Merit this season.

Jim, an ardent golfer from an early age, has worked his way up the Gazette ranks since joining as a trainee four years ago.
