Fife Herald chief reporter Lindsey Quinn has taken the plunge in a bid to raise money for charity.

The journalist joined eight other daring swimmers to brave the waters of Tayport Harbour and swim the 1.6-mile course to Broughty Ferry.

The aim was to raise more than £2,500 for two local Maggie's Cancer Caring Centres.

Before the challenge, Lindsey said: "I wanted to find a way to raise money for Maggie's and the only thing I know that I can do fairly well is swim. What better challenge than to swim across the Tay?"

Building up to the event, Lindsey trained in Broughty Ferry harbour and said: "It was surprising how cold it was but you get used to it quite quickly.

"People think we've got wet suits on or that we're all greased up but we're not. We'll just have our swimming costumes."

Despite her preparation, Lindsey still had to cope with a "torrential downpour" and dodging a brood of jellyfish on the day - but she successfully made it across the water and back to dry land.
