'Good news' as new weekly hits the streets

A new free weekly newspaper has hits the streets of Cambridgeshire, with the launch of The Fenland Post.

The new 64-page title, published by Archant Anglia, is the only paper to cover the whole of Fenland and will focus on good news.

Editor Brian Asplin said: "This is an exciting development for Fenland. This is the only newspaper to cover the whole of the district, and I am sure its fresh style and approach will find many friends among the perceptive fen people."

The new paper will be distributed to 37,500 homes in the March, Wisbech, Chatteris and Whittlesey areas of Fenland every Wednesday, and has been modelled on another of Archant's free newspapers, the Hunts Post, which has won several awards in recent years.

  • Archant Anglia staff with the new title
  • But although similar in design, the new Fenland title will have its own unique content and additional sales, distribution and editorial staff have been taken on, including a news editor and a reporter.

Editor Brian Asplin will also continue to edit Archant's two paid-for titles in the area, the Wisbech Standard and the Cambs Times series.

Archant Anglia publishing director Gerry Eagling, said: "We have an award-winning formula in the Hunts Post and we wanted to extend this to the adjacent Fenland area.

"It is a totally stand-alone publication with an emphasis on good news and not bad.

"Cambridgeshire is the fastest-growing county in the country and we believe the new publication will be a big success."

  • Many of the Archant Anglia team got out on the streets to deliver the first edition of the paper themselves led by advertising sales director Colin Huggins.
