The National Union of Journalists is appealing for support - both financial and moral - for journalists who were today due to embark on a 48-hour stoppage over pay.

Staff at the Belfast Telegraph, Sunday Life, and Community Telegraph have rejected a three per cent offer, one which beats the rate of inflation.

But the union says the average wage of experienced journalists at the papers is £21,500 per annum - compared to a UK graduate starting salary of £21,000. It wants to move towards parity with their colleagues in Dublin where the pay is higher.

The NUJ is looking for donations to its strike fund.

It is also rallying support through messages, which can be sent to the father of chapel, Bob Miller.
