Paper's support in hunt for missing woman

The Evening Advertiser in Swindon has helped the search for missing local woman Amanda Edwards.

The Newsquest-owned daily printed 1,000 posters, designed by the paper's staff, which were distributed locally by police.

  • The 21-year-old had not been seen for more than a week and police were appealing for information to help solve the mystery of her disappearance. Amanda's body was found at a building site during the weekend after police had questioned a man, who was himself later found dead.

The posters, bearing the Evening Advertiser masthead, featured two photographs of Amanda - a snapshot and a CCTV grab, and appealed for anyone with information to contact police.

Acting editor Pauline Leighton said the paper had been pleased to offer its support to the search.

She said: "We do this every time there is a major incident in the area such as this.

"We were approached by police and always help out."
