A London newspaper that moved from publishing monthly to weekly only last month has ceased trading due to production problems.

The Docklands News closed after the edition of April 8, with all staff being made redundant this week.

Yet the 21-year-old title remains a going concern, with parent company Docklands Media Ltd actively trying to find a purchaser to revive it.

Group managing director Richard Alvin said: "Following some problems outside our control, the parent company decided to cease trading of the newspaper.

"We have already been in talks with a prospective purchaser and one or two things may happen. It may come back in some form, although it would not appear in the same format.

"All staff directly relating to the title were made redundant on Tuesday."

The leap from being a monthly paper to a weekly came about after positive feedback from readers and advertisers.

The 40-page weekly was being distributed door-to-door to 80,000 homes and businesses across the Docklands area.
