The Derbyshire Times' coverage of a junior football league looks set to be restored.

Sheffield and District Junior Sunday League bosses have lifted their ban on clubs contacting the paper to publicise their results.

But they say its rule that scores over 14 are not reported still stands.

The decision to restore communications with the paper has been welcomed by Derbyshire Times editor Mike Wilson.

But he is still concerned that the move would not address the question of reporting results properly.

And he fears that because information will now come from the league's publicity officer, reports might only cover which teams won and lost, rather than the actual scores.

He said: "We are a newspaper attempting to report the correct information.

"We've got to wait and see what we receive from the league as far as the match reports are concerned - it doesn't look like we'll be getting scores over 14 goals."

HoldtheFrontPage last month reported how the weekly paper had fallen foul of the league after it correctly reported on a 29-0 win by Brampton Rovers Under-9s, and described the result as a "comprehensive trouncing".

League bosses said the match report broke its rule that scores over 14 are not reported, and promptly banned all of its clubs from contacting the paper.

News of the compromise offer came in a letter to the paper from league vice-chairman Mike Basford.

He told the paper: "We are fast approaching the end of another very successful season with many local clubs achieving success in the cup, trophy and divisional competitions.

"These children deserve congratulations for their efforts and commitment over the past six or seven months and we at the league do not wish to stand in the way of this applause."
