Paper's actions could save man's life

A seriously ill man has been reunited with the long-lost brother who could save his life - thanks to the Daily Echo.

Neil Phillips, (39), was diagnosed with leukaemia and desperately needed a bone marrow transplant within months to give him a chance to live.

His best hope of a match was his brother, Christopher, (53), but the pair lost close touch after their mother, Audrey, died when Neil was just two, and they eventually lost contact when they moved to different parts of the country.

Neil's partner Helen Jones launched a desperate appeal through the Bournemouth paper to find the brother, who moved from Poole in Dorset to Greece at the end of November.

The Daily Echo managed to track down the company currently letting Christopher's house, which sent him an e-mail asking him to contact the newsroom.

And when he called from the Greek island of Cephalonia the paper immediately put him in touch with Helen.
