Leading Scottish editors and broadcasters have rejected an accusation of negative reporting of the Scottish Parliament from Lib Dem peer Sir David Steel, who complained of "bitch journalism".
He made his remarks at the Royal Society of Edinburgh conference on Scotland and the Media.

The Ealing Gazette series, part of Trinity Mirror Southern, celebrated the unsung heroes of its community at an Oscar-style ceremony.
After the ceremony in Brentford, special guests including Ealing's Mayor Gurcharan Singh and MPs Steve Pound and Clive Soley joined the 150 guests for a Nepalese meal provided by Ealing restaurateur Monty. Winner Willis Wilkie was honoured for his tireless work against racial prejudice in the area since the 1970s.
The new look website for toowrite.com has been launched by Northcliffe Electronic Publishing.
Since the launch of the true-life story platform in 2000, more than 5,000 stories have been submitted, with each being entered into regular competitions to win £1,000 in prize money. Many have also been published in Northcliffe newspapers across the country.
