News in brief

Television viewers in Scotland are being treated to a new advertising campaign from the Edinburgh Evening News.
The ads, set to run throughout this month, highlight three areas of the paper's content: news, sport and entertainment.

The Manchester Evening News has lifted the lid on young victims of the modelling industry, by setting a student up as an undercover reporter to expose the way young 'wannabees' can be exploited.
Despite being told by an industry expert she did not have the looks to make it, some agencies were willing to take her on, promising mountains of work for weeks before letting her down.

Award-winning Derby Evening Telegraph photographer Jane Barlow has put her talents to good use by hosting an exhibition of her work in the city - at her old school.
She was named Fuji Photographer of the Year by the National Council for The Training of Journalists and her display is part of a series of activities aimed at former staff and pupils.

The Newspaper Society, Newspaper Publishers' Association, Periodical Publishers' Association and Publishers' Association joined officials from the Department for Culture, Media and Sport and Department for Trade and Industry at a meeting to discuss publishing issues.

A roadshow tour from the Office for National Statistics is travelling the country to promote the new regional trends publication - a document journalists pore over for all the official Government statistics about their area.Leeds, Birmingham, London, Southampton, Bristol, Manchester, Nottingham, Newcastle, Norwich, Plymouth, Cardiff and Gatwick will host briefings and information sessions.

Global publisher of the Wall Street Journal, Karen House, will share her views on the current definition of 'news' and how this has changed in the face of global economic change in a presentation to the World Newspaper Congress in Turkey at the end of May.
