'Issues remain' after staff meet with editor

Yorkshire Post editor Rachael Campey has held a briefing with staff in response to a union vote of "no confidence" in her.

The vote among National Union of Journalists members at the Post took place after they felt the editor had reneged on a promise not to make staff cuts when the redundancy of women's editor Jill Armstrong was announced in a reorganisation.

But despite Rachael's meeting with editorial staff, the union feels there could still be issues to address.

Union organiser Miles Barter said: "The feeling of NUJ members is that the company has not done enough to address their concerns about the direction the paper is going in, and in particular, Jill Armstrong's job."

But Johnston Press chief executive voiced his own vote of confidence in the editor, saying after the meeting: "I am pleased with how things are going and that the Yorkshire Post is making real progress under the editorship of Rachael Campey."

It is understood the issue of finding Jill Armstrong a new role in the company remains unsettled.
