Mark Bradley has been appointed editor of the Wakefield Express.

He was officially installed in the post on Monday, and had been acting editor at the Yorkshire title since Ed Asquith left to edit the Scarborough Evening News in June last year.

In his new role Mark, (30), has also become group editor for several titles in the Yorkshire Weekly Newspaper Group.

In addition to editing the Express, he has also taken responsibilty for the paid-for Pontefract & Castleford Express and Selby Times, and the free Wakefield Extra, Pontefract & Castleford Extra, Selby Chronicle, Hemsworth & South Elmsall Express, Rothwell Extra, Ossett & Horbury Observer and Pub Speak.

Mark began his career as a reporter on the Uxbridge Gazette and also worked as a sub-editor on the Harrogate Advertiser and Yorkshire Evening Post before joining the Wakefield Express.

He had been deputy editor at the title for three years before becoming acting editor last June.

Mark said: "The past seven months have been a good grounding. Until now it has been a kind of holding role and now I'm officially in place I'm looking forward to making some positive changes.

"There is a good team here with a strong set of reporters, sub-editors and photographers, and we're in good shape for the future."

As part of the re-organisation following Ed Asquith's departure, John Wilson, (48), has now taken responsiblity for the group's Morley operation, which includes the Morley Advertiser, Morley Observer and South Leeds Observer.

He has edited the Dewsbury Reporter Series for the past five years, and retains responsibility for the paid-for Dewsbury Reporter, Mirfield Reporter, Batley News, Birstall News, Spenborough Guardian and Heckmondwike Herald, and the free Weekly Advertiser.
