Two sides to meet in Yorkshire Post dispute

Yorkshire Post editorial staff are set to meet with the management after passing a vote of "no confidence" in their editor, Rachael Campey.

The vote took place at an NUJ meeting convened after the redundancy of women's editor Jill Armstrong was announced.

The union is appealing to Yorkshire Post Newspapers managing director Chris Green to intervene over what the union calls "the grave situation which has developed on the Yorkshire Post since the appointment of Ms Campey as editor".

It claims there have been repeated assurances there would be no job losses under an ongoing reorganisation at the paper, and is fighting to find a suitable post for Jill.

More than 100 members of staff attended the joint Yorkshire Post-Yorkshire Evening Post chapel meeting last week, where there are 140 NUJ members among around 180 staff. Only Yorkshire Post members voted on the no-confidence motion.

A meeting between the two sides was expected before the end of this week.

Rachael Campey took over at the Post in April. She was previously deputy news editor at The Times and has edited the Evening Herald in Plymouth and the Exeter Express and Echo, before that serving as deputy editor on the Northern Echo.
