Welcome 'queen Kerry' home in style, says Guardian

Queen of the jungle Kerry McFadden should be welcomed home with civic reception in her honour, says the Warrington Guardian.

Hot on the heels of its Vote Kerry campaign, her home town newspaper is urging local council chiefs to roll out the red carpet.

The former Atomic Kitten singer stormed to victory in the hit TV show I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here earlier this week.

  • And hours after her victory, the Guardian was trying to get bosses at Warrington Borough Council to have talks with Kerry's mum Sue Katona, who still lives in the town, and the star's agents, both of whom have backed the Guardian's idea.

Kerry's agent has said that the Queen of the Jungle will be in Warrington on Saturday and would be available for a civic celebration.

In a campaigning front page, the Guardian said: "We suggested a civic reception in an open-top bus or a Town Hall celebration. Our only stipulation was that we should give our superstar a homecoming to be proud of.

"So, come on, council chiefs, let's roll out the red carpet to honour Kerry."

  • It is understood Kerry will be donating some of her prizewinnings to a Warrington charity in memory of a local girl who died of a rare form of leukaemia. At the time the Guardian campaigned for potential bone marrow donors to come forward and many Guardian staff members were among those who volunteered.
