Archant fundraisers hit goldmine for charity

Staff at regional news publisher Archant raised £10,075 for charity in the last six months of 2003 - and the company Gold scheme has matched every penny of it.

Added to the £13,200 it awarded during the first six months of the year, this makes a total of £23,275 in donations.

A record-breaking 35 applications for matched donations from staff were approved at the December meeting of the Archant Gold committee.

A further £40,000 has been put into the Archant Gold pot for next year and employees are being invited to get going with their charity fundraising to access a slice of the cash.

The following staff were among those who had their efforts recognised by Archant Gold and saw their charity cash doubled:

Newham Recorder editor Colin Grainger completed a sponsored swim;

Daredevil Extra reporter Craig Davidson abseiled 200 feet;

Comet editor Darren Isted completed the London Marathon;

Herts Comet reporter/sub Sue Fisher had dozens of custard pies thrown at her as she performed as a circus clown;

Evening Star sub Judith Gunion rode in the celebrations to mark 100 years of the Tour de France in Paris;

Weston Mercury managing editor Judi Kisiel and the Mercury Marvels undertook a sponsored walk;

Welwyn & Hatfield Times editor Terry Mitchinson completed a 14-mile walk;

Four Archant employees trekked to Newcastle to take part in the 13-mile Great North Run - including East Anglian Daily Times editor Terry Hunt.
