Brave-sole Chris risks a scorching

South Wales Echo journalist Chris Beckett proved what a brave-sole he is when he took part in a fundraising fire walk.

The trainee reporter risked a scorching to perform a red-hot walk across burning coals - and survived to tell the tale and raise £250 for the charity Belt Up School Kids.

Before stepping onto the hot coals, which reached temperatures in excess of 1,200F, Chris and 12 fellow fundraisers took part in a two-hour coaching session, practicing 'mind over matter'.

  • Hot footin' it: Chris brave the flames
  • Chris said: "It went really well. We were all so psyched-up after the coaching session everyone was up for it and feeling confident.

"It didn't hurt. We were told we might get a few blisters but my feet were fine, just very black!"

  • Belt Up School Kids is backed by ex-Stereophonics drummer Stuart Cable. The charity campaigns for school buses to have individual seatbelts for each child.
