Journalists are being invited to attend a discussion about reporting murder, which will focus on the deaths of Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman and the trial of Ian Huntley and Maxine Carr.
Organised by the Dart Centre for Journalism and Trauma, the meeting will look at the questions of media ethics and responsibility when reporting on murders and murder trials, and what impact the publicity can have on the communities and individuals involved.
It will also look at the emotional involvement of reporters themselves as they work with the victims, the bereaved and the police and discuss what lessons can be drawn for the journalism of trauma in terms of objectivity, accuracy and the media's relationship with local communities.
Speakers will include the Anglican vicar of Soham Tim Alban Jones MBE and various journalists and editors who were involved in the coverage of the murders of Holly and Jessica and the trial of Ian Huntley and Maxine Carr.
The round table meeting will be held on Tuesday, February 10, at The Frontline Club, 13 Norfolk Place, London, W2 1QJ.
Numbers are limited, so anyone who would like to attend is asked to contact Mark Brayne at mark.brayne@dartcentre.org.
