The Halifax Evening Courier is helping to get a kerbside recycling collection scheme back up and running with a donation of £4,000.
The newspaper has handed over the cash from its managed fund within the Community Foundation for Calderdale, which supports local voluntary and community activity.
The recycling scheme collected waste from thousands of households in the Calder Valley and parts of Halifax before Kerbside, the company which ran the scheme, was forced to fold because of financial difficulties last year.
Now a new company has been formed, but £90,000 is needed to help clear debts and to cover start-up costs.
Together with the Evening Courier's donation, a further £25,000 has been pledged and it is hoped a bid for lottery funding will be successful, allowing the scheme to be fully operational by July when six-figure grants from the New Opportunities Fund and the European Social Fund should be in place.
