Cornwall and Devon Media has made its move to purpose built offices at the £4m riverside City Wharf in Truro.

The modern offices will provide state-of-the-art accommodation for around 150 staff of the West Briton, the Cornishman and Cornish Guardian, North Devon Journal and Mid Devon Gazette - as well as several magazines - and there is room for the workforce to expand to 190.

After 48 years at Lemon Quay, the newspaper company found the offices had become too cramped and had no room to expand.

West Briton editor Richard Vanhinsbergh said: "This is a magnificent landmark building for the 21st century.

"It underlines our continuing commitment to Cornwall, Truro, to our staff and to providing high quality and effective services to our readers and advertisers."

The three-storey City Wharf building, which fronts Truro River and has its entrance off Malpas Road, has been taking shape over the past few months and stands on the site of a former Cornwall Farmers and auction centre building and was designed to reflect the former wharf-side premises.

The removal operation was been painstakingly planned with the company's IT department working non-stop to ensure computer equipment was ready for staff to use as they moved in during the past few days.
