Editorial skills required

A call has gone out for media professionals to give up some time and use their communication skills to do voluntary work for charity.

The Media Trust is asking people to donate their skills to the charity of their choice, as many groups need professional skills to help them do their work.

Among the things journalists can do for the Trust are:

Speak and give advice at a seminar or surgeries;

Advise a charity on a one-off basis or longer;

Help a voluntary organisation produce a video.

Deputy chairman Jon Snow said: "Communication skills are vital for all organisations, and if the voluntary sector is to play a full part in society its work must be seen and heard.

"Any organisation wanting to take full advantage of the digital age will need professional skills, resources, information and contacts. These are what the Media Trust provide."

People can register their details at www.mediatrust.org to browse the bank of communications requests from charities and community groups around the UK.

There is no obligation to match yourself with a charity, but if a request does appeal, you can contact a charity directly from the website.
