Passing over the fields I got the best view of the area I have called home all my life.
Landmarks you pass everyday take on a different look and have different characteristics when seen from the air.
Microlights are restricted from flying over towns but I could clearly see Retford and Worksop and before long there was Bolsover, Chesterfield and Sheffield.
Worksop College, Rufford Abbey and Welbeck Abbey paved the way to Chatsworth.
Chatsworth came into view in around half an hour and the sight of the majestic building in its grounds was awe inspiring.
Backed by the clouds and bright sunshine there is no view of Chatsworth from the ground that could beat that.
We flew on to Matlock taking in the depths and the heights of the Derbyshire countryside before heading back to Headon.
Using the plumes of smoke from West Burton and Cottam Power Stations as guides, we headed for the centre of the two to get us home.
The microlight experience is highly recommended to those brave enough to take to the sky.
It is an inimitable feeling being open to the elements at 2,000 feet.
Once you get used to the sensation, it is almost relaxing to be up there with just the hum of the engine and the occasional muttering of the radio.
As for me, I am trying to find out if I could fit a microlight in my garage...
