Death of former sports editor

Former York Evening Press sports editor Bryan FitzGerald has died. He was 74.

The journalist worked at the York newspaper for more than 20 years and went on to write for the News of the World.

Bryan joined the Evening Press in 1946, starting out as a news reporter before switching to sport in the 1960s.

Later he became the paper's sports editor, and remained so until he left to join the NoW in 1970.

He is survived by his wife, Valerie, and two children.
