News in brief

Archant has been assessing the results of its latest company survey, which almost half the workforce completed, a figure up from 45 per cent last year.
Although overall satisfaction levels were down, most staff were positive about the work they did - and physical working conditions were found to have improved significantly.
Chris McGivern, who ran the survey on behalf of Archant, said: "Staff confidence in Archant's future is very high."

A campaign launched by the Western Morning News to prevent a resumption of the expert trade in horses, ponies and donkeys attracted support from more than 65,000 readers in the first three months.
The paper got involved after Compassion in World Farming brought up concerns of a proposed EU regulation which could see the current ban abolished.

Requests to produce an enamel badge for supporters of the Bristol Evening Post's One in Four cancer appeal have been granted.
Thousands of badges, featuring the campaign's emblem of a flower with three white petals and one red one have been produced, which can be claimed for a minimum donation of £1.

A new print of the Manchester Evening News book Around Manchester in the 50s and 60s has arrived at the company headquarters.
Changes to the landscape of Manchester and Salford around that time, as well as major events, are covered in pictures in a record of everyday life, available from the MEN for £11.50.

The One in Four campaign being run by the Bristol Evening Post had reached its first target of £25,000 to improve the region's cancer services.
The cash, from Evening Post readers, will help pay for a wish-list of items for use by both the NHS and charities to help treat the disease and support sufferers and their families.
