Three charities visited the Sutton Comet offices in London to receive grant cheques from the Gannett Foundation, the charitable arm of the firm which owns newspaper publishers Newsquest.
The Open Door Youth Counselling Service, The Granfer's Trust and the Friends of Star Clubs - Fostar -received much-needed money, which will help them continue with important work in the community.
Open Door, based in Carshalton, offers youth counselling for people aged between 11 and 25, and received £1,600 to help with administrative and resource costs.
Granfer's, based in Sutton, is to take up residence in new offices next year and received £5,000.
Fostar is an outreach organisation offering social activities and days out for the disabled. It received £4,500.
The Gannett Foundation regularly provides funding to support local organisations in the areas where Newsquest operates.
It supports projects which take a creative approach to issues such as education, neighbourhood improvements, economic development, youth development and helping disadvantaged people.
