New role for Butterfield

Former Lancashire Evening Telegraph editor Peter Butterfield has been appointed to the Calderstones NHS Trust.

He was editor from 1985 to 2000 and has since worked as a lecturer in journalism at Edge Hill College in Ormskirk.

He is also a past chairman of the North West region of the Society of Editors.

Peter joined the Telegraph from the Western Mail, where he was deputy editor.

His newspaper career began with the Gateshead Post and continued through the Newcastle Chronicle and Journal, Reading Evening Post and the Evening Post-Echo in Hemel Hempstead. He began his first stint in Blackburn as assistant editor of the Telegraph in 1980.

His other roles in public life include the chairmanship of the Blackburn Theatre Trust and being vice-chairman of his parish council.
