Redundancies sought at Trinity's Welsh operation

Fifty posts are to be made redundant at the Western Mail & Echo Ltd, parent company Trinity Mirror has announced.

The cuts will affect all areas of the business, including The Western Mail, South Wales Echo, Wales on Sunday and Celtic Newspapers.

The newspaper publisher says all departments will be affected, from editorial, pre-press and marketing, to digital media and management.

The cut-backs - which form part of the 550 announced by Trinity Mirror in July, following a review by chief executive Sly Bailey - will also see the closure of the company's Swansea branch office.

A company spokesman said that the changes would help to improve performance of the business and maintain its competiveness.

He added that a period of consultation was now under way and voluntary redundancies would be sought.

Included in the 50 are ten vacancies which will remain unfilled.
