Daredevil Kelly jumps off a cliff

Weston & Somerset Mercury journalist Kelly Crane has had an eventful few weeks, after taking part in two all-action charity events - and winning a prestigious award.

The deputy news editor was named Best News Journalist on a Paid-for Weekly Newspaper at the Newspaper Society's Weekly Newspaper Awards.

But she's also been thrown off a cliff and dragged around Weston bay in a giant doughnut!

The 25-year-old took part in a zip-wire event to raise money for Weston Hospicecare and a "death-defying" doughnut ride in aid of the Mayor's Charity Appeal.

And although quite adventurous, Kelly admits boths stunts were a little hair-raising.

She said: "The zip-wire event was at a disused quarry and started on a cliff 150ft up.

"I'm fine with heights, but I must admit I was a bit worried at the top. It was too late by then.

"More than 100 people took part, but I was the only one who screamed all the way down!"

But worse was to come when Kelly took part in the doughnut ride - which involved sitting on a giant inflatable rubber ring tied to the back of a speed boat.

She was part of a team of six, which also included the Mayor, a chef, a doctor, a vicar and a lawyer.

She said: "It was horrid - absolutely vile. You go round really fast and the aim is to make you fall off.

"And because the ring is so big it's really high and the water was freezing cold. But it was good fun."
