Former Nottingham Evening Post journalist David McVay could soon see his work on the big screen, with the rights to his latest book sold to the team behind the box office hit, Four Weddings and a Funeral.
David's book Steak...Diana Ross; Diary of a Football Nobody was published earlier this year and recalls his days as a Notts County footballer in the 1970s.
It won critical acclaim, giving an entertaining insight into the life of a professional footballer in an era far removed from today's multi-millionaire Premiership superstars.
And now, after selling the film rights, David is hoping that the proposed film will capture the essence of the game, unlike previous Hollywood attempts.
He said: "It would be nice if someone could make a film that was close to what the atmosphere is like at football.
"The seeds (for the book) were first sown when I was sitting at my desk at the Evening Post next to John Brunton.
"We used to talk about it and thought it could make something because of the era.
"It's an area of the 70s which seems to be popular at the moment with nostalgia big business and, having lived through the decade that time forgot, there is a lot to be said."
David made more than 200 league appearances, 128 of them for Notts County, in a professional career spanning ten years. He also played for Peterborough United and Lincoln City. Do you have a story about the regional press? Ring 0116 227 3122/3121, or
