Reporter prepares for MTV performance with Christina Aguilera

Next month's MTV Europe Music Awards in Edinburgh will be swarming with journalists, but trainee reporter Fiona Armstrong will get a unique view - when she performs on stage at the event.

Stars such as Beyoncé Knowles, Dido, Kylie Minogue and Pink are due to perform on the night, and 17-year-old Fiona, who is a journalist at The Courier in Dundee, has been invited to sing with Christina Aguilera at the event on November 6.

She will be one of 40 members of the National Youth Choir of Scotland who will act as backing singers for the raunchy pop diva.

Fiona won her place on a 'first come, first served' basis after all the choir members were contacted about the event.

She said: "The organisers only wanted 40 of us and there are around 100 members of the choir. Some of the other choir members didn't have their phones switched on and so the message didn't reach them in time."

And ahead of the event Fiona and her fellow choir members have been taking part in rehearsals - although she is under strict orders not to reveal what songs they will be performing.

Although more used to singing classical music, Fiona and the rest of the choir are looking forward to the event.

Fiona said: "Hopefully I won't get too excited and I can keep my voice in tune on the night!"
