Web news is broadcast direct to mobiles

The Shropshire Star has launched a new "mobile" website for PDAs and Smartphones - with a slimmed down version of the award-winning main Internet site.

The most popular areas are being reconfigured, and include the news and sport, what's on, business and weather sections.Graphics, as well as text, are available through the fast-loading system.

Internet editor Ian Harvey said: "All the information on the mobile site is updated in real time along with the full website, the whole process is automated. So the instant a news or sport story is added by our Internet editorial team it will go live on both sites.

  • "This new development comes hot on the heels of the successful redesign of Shropshirestar.com and is further evidence of our determination to push the site forward and provide a constantly improved service, making it the number one choice for anyone seeking information about Shropshire and Mid Wales.

"We are offering this new service because we want our visitors to be able to access Shropshirestar.com no matter where they might be. They are no longer tied down to their computer desk."
