Two Cumbrian newspapers have stepped in to help solve the mystery of a baby who was found encased in a concrete block.

The remains of the baby, who is believed to have died between March 1990 and January 1992, were found in September last year. Police are treating the case as murder.

Following renewed police appeals for information, the daily News & Star, and its sister paper, the weekly Times & Star, have printed 400 posters which have been distributed to local shops and businesses.

It is hoped they may attract fresh information which will explain what happened to the six-month-old baby - named Lara by police.

Headlined 'Who is Baby Lara?', the striking poster includes a generic catalogue picture of a baby, together with a picture of the concrete block where the remains were found in.

News & Star deputy editor Nick Turner said: "This is a very disturbing case to think that somebody knows how the remains of a baby came to be entombed in a concrete block, and it will remain a mystery unless someone comes forward with information.

"We decided to use an image of a baby on the poster to grab people's attention and help them to imagine what the baby would have been like and illustrate what a tragedy this is."

The newspapers are also offering a £500 reward to anyone who comes forward with information which leads directly to identifying the remains.
