Former Evening News staff to be reunited

A reunion of former Cambridge Evening News employees is to be held later this month.

Staff who worked at the newspaper's former offices in Newmarket Road will gather on Friday, October 24 - at the Burleigh Arms pub where many of them used to meet for a lunchtime pint or a drink after work.

The event is being organised by Graham Smith, a former compositor at the paper.

He said: "It was a close knit community at Newmarket Road and lots of us have kept in touch, but we thought it was about time we had a proper reunion.

"Last year we had about 60 people there, including journalists, photographers, and staff from the comp room and the machine room.

"We are hoping that we can attract the same number, if not more, this year."

  • Anyone who used to work for the Cambridge Evening News at its Newmarket Road offices, and would like to attend the reunion, should contact Graham on 01223 722385.

Tickets cost £5, including a buffet, and must be booked in advance.
