Hair today, gone tomorrow!

It was hair today, gone tomorrow when Colchester Evening Gazette staff shaved their heads in the name of charity.

To show solidarity for reporter Jeremy Price, who has lost his hair while he undergoes radiotherapy for a brain tumour, a plethora of people agreed to reveal their scalps.

Losing their locks were reporters Laurence Cawley, James Tute, Chris Wilkin, David Grocott, Rob Mead, Glen Oldershaw, Rob Singh, Mark Applin, Neil Jones and Tom Weatherill.

Sub-editors Will Bramhill, Martin Hunt and Eoghan Clifford, and librarian Rob King also took part.

After the shearing, the sight of nearly a dozen skinheaded men walking round the town drew plenty of stares from passers-by.

The money raised will be split between Essex County Hospital, where Jeremy is being treated, and the Brain and Spine Foundation, which provides information and support for people with neurological conditions.

Jeremy said: "I'd hoped we would raise £1,000 but the way things are going we'll smash that target.

"I really can't thank everyone who took part, sponsored people, and the Hype! team enough for getting involved."

  • Donations towards the sponsorship fund can be made via Jeremy Price at the Evening Gazette, e-mail jeremy.price@thisisessex.co.uk.
