Race day boosts profile of the Press

The Evening Press backed a winner when it sponsored a fun-packed family race meeting at York Racecourse.

More than 21,000 people turned out for the Evening Press Sunday Race Day, when hen parties, birthday groups and families mingled with racing fanatics to witness some thrilling riding, including a four-way photo finish in the third of seven races, and a 55-1 winner.

It was the fourth year running that the paper had sponsored the meeting, the only Sunday racing of the year at York.

It offered an ideal opportunity for the Evening Press to get closer to its readers, to entertain corporate clients - and offer free race tickets to its staff.

Editor Kevin Booth said: "The sun shone and our readers had a great day. Evening Press branding was to be seen all over the place by all those thousands of people."
