New editor named at Daventry weekly

Jason Gibbins is to become the new editor of the Daventry Express.

Currently deputy editor of the Buckingham Advertiser and Review Group, Jason (pictured) will join the Express on November 17, succeeding David Granger who is leaving to work in PR.

The 30-year-old has been deputy editor at the Buckingham group, which comprises three titles - the Buckingham and Winslow Advertiser, the Brackley and Towcester Advertiser and the Bicester Review - for the past two years.

He began his journalism career in 1993 as a reporter on the Northampton Chronicle & Echo, before joining the Buckingham titles as deputy news editor.

After four years he moved to the Coventry Evening Telegraph to work as a sub-editor, and returned to Buckingham two years ago to become deputy editor.

In his new role he will also be responsible for the Daventry Express website and the paper's free sister title, the Daventry Review.

He said: "I've very excited, the Daventry Express is my home town newspaper. I was raised there and still live there and it is an absolute honour to be appointed editor - I'm very much looking forward to it."

Earlier this year Jason, alongside editor Rob Gibbard, was involved in giving the Buckingham titles a new look - but he says he has no immediate plans to make any similar changes to the Daventry Express.

Jason said: "I will be finding my feet and getting to know the team before putting in some new ideas to freshen the title up.

"It's a paper I'm very familiar with and it hasn't changed greatly over the years - it's always been at the heart of the community and community issues and I will be continuing that tradition."
