It is being marketed as an ideal starter textbook for radio journalism and media students, and includes the latest digital production techniques, as well as hints and tips covering the core skills of radio journalism.
Working practices in both BBC and commercial radio are explained, and there is also advice for students on getting that all-important first radio job, how to market yourself and how to deal with job interviews.
The book, based on Paul's previous work, Local Radio Journalism, has a revamped legal and technical section, as well as a new chapter on the journalist as a programme producer.
The differences between newspaper and radio news presentation, and interview technique, are also covered, as well as information on what everyone does at a radio station, how to get on, learning about what the reader wants - and expects - and a section on specialist programming, such as outside broadcast.
Paul Chantler is a highly successful radio programming consultant currently working for a number of radio groups in the UK and Europe.
Peter Stewart is a highly experienced radio journalist and was Head of News at Essex Radio Group's nine stations for many years. More recently he was morning news editor at TalkSport and currently works in the BBC's newsroom for Radio Kent and South East Today.
