Mutiny on the buses...?

If he ever needs a new job, the editor of The Argus, Brighton, may not need to go far.

Simon Bradshaw tried driving a bus as part of a charity day spent working for the Brighton and Hove Bus and Coach Company - and apparently did rather well.

Simon, (44), had been "bought" by bus company managing director Roger French at an auction in aid of The Argus Appeal.

Roger, who donated £1,000 for his "slave" for the day, also made the editor answer telephone calls from customers, fill shelves at the company's One Stop centre at Brighton station and try his hand in the company's paintshop in Conway Street, Hove.

After driving a single decker training bus from Hangleton in Hove to The Argus's offices in Brighton, Simon said: "I admit I was pretty apprehensive about driving a bus but I thoroughly enjoyed the experience."

Roger said: "Simon was a superb driver and he has got a job here any time he wants!"

Simon added: "Far from being a slave, Roger was very easy on me and really just showed me behind the scenes at the bus company.

"The operation was hugely impressive and all the staff, especially my driving instructor Anita Jasper were terrific."

All the money raised by The Argus Appeal goes to needy people and good causes across Sussex.
