New book from former Express & Echo man

A former Exeter Express & Echo journalist has published a new book charting the history of oval track motor racing in the South West.

Andy Weltch has compiled the 128-page Oval Racing in Devon and Cornwall title, which contains more than 200 images capturing the story of racing in the region.

The book includes the first Midget car races in the early 1950s, the introduction of Stock Car racing in 1954 and the development of racing up to the present day.

Andy said: "Many of the pictures have never been published before.

"It's fascinating to see how the sport and its cars have developed over the years."

Andy now works as a public relations officer at Cardiff University. His previous titles include The Oval Racing Handbook, Speedway in Wales and a book on the history of the Cardiff Devils ice hockey club.
