SportsWeek supplement launched north of the border

The Daily Record has announced new investment to bring SportsWeek to its readers.

Dedicated to sport, the 16-page supplement will cover Scottish Premier League football, junior football, the Highland League, rugby, golf, boxing, speedway, Amercian football, basketball and cricket.

There will also be a forum for fans and regular tips from sports pros as well as results and reports from all over Scotland.

The new publication, which launched yesterday, reinforces the Scottish title's position on sport.

Six new editorial staff are being recruited.

SportsWeek is published in four regional editions to ensure content is relevant to the local readership.

Local variations will include local columnists, league tables, results and a fanzine page.

Assistant editor Jim Traynor said: "This is a unique initiative and really brings a ground-breaking approach to newspaper sports reporting.

"SportsWeek guarantees something for everyone with a passion for sport."

The product developments result from in-depth research into the Scottish population, the Daily Record's readership and the perpetually changing marketplace in which the title operates.
