Reporter plans to munch his way through half marathon

Buckinghamshire reporter James Webb plans to take part in a charity run with a difference this weekend - by eating his way around the course.

The former fitness instructor, who now writes for the Bucks Free Press, South Bucks Star and Midweek, will be joining hundreds of other runners for the Wycombe Half Marathon.

But instead of trying to run his way round the course in the fastest possible time, James will be trying to pass as many eateries as he can, and tucking into culinary treats along the way.

James said: "I'm known for liking my food, and the idea stemmed from there.

"My editor, Steve Cohen, suggested that rather than run the route I should try to visit as many places to eat as possible."

All the money that James raises wil go towards the Thomas Ball Children's Cancer Fund, in honour of the 14-year-old who recently lost his battle with neuroblastoma and was well-known to many of the staff at the Bucks Free Press.

As James will only be able to walk round the route, he will not be able to complete the 13 mile course, but will instead go as far as he can in the three hours earmarked for the event.

And colleagues Kris Hall and James Clements will also be there, taking photographs and giving James moral support.

James said: "If we walked around the whole course it would take about half a day, so we will start with the runners and then go on our alternative route before re-joining the runners to cross the finish line.

"I am asking people to sponsor me and we will also be carrying collection buckets so I hope that people will give generously."
