Editor's question time all part of the job

Newsquest Buckinghamshire editor Steve Cohen took time out from the newsroom last week to hold a current affairs class at Amersham and Wycombe College.

A group of adult learners gathered at the college's Flackwell Heath campus to hear the editor talk about newsgathering and news values.

He also got them to talk about interesting facts about themselves, in a bid to illustrate what makes a good news story.

The session was one of many that Steve and his deputy, Claire Bourke, have taken part in recently, and Steve felt the class was a success.

He said: "The group responded well and put me on the spot with lots of challenging questions.

"We speak to various groups at schools, colleges, WI0s and clubs when approached.

"It's part of being editor and helps give the paper visability and promote reader loyalty.

"A lot of people are interested in hearing from the editor of their local newspaper, and sometimes we can underestimate how simple it is to entertain people by just telling the truth about daily life in a newspaper office."
