Support group for aspiring black journalists to launch

Aspire, a support network for aspiring black journalists, is to be be launched at an event in London.

BBC London News presenter Brenda Emmanus, Guardian reporter Vikram Dodd and Daily Mirror 3am Girl Eva Simpson will be guest speakers at the National Union of Journalists headquarters in Grays Inn Road on July 5.

The event will also comprise an informal afternoon of networking, careers advice and first-hand information on getting into the media.

There will be producers, print, radio and broadcast journalists, presenters, freelancers and editors from Sky Sports News, New Nation, National Union of Journalists, Reuters, Channel 4, ITN, BBC, and African Caribbean TV on hand to point visitors in the right direction and explain how their own careers progressed.
