Pay deal reached for Shopper staff

The National Union of Journalists and management at the News Shopper series in south east London have reached agreement on pay negotiations which will see staff receive a 2.5 per cent pay rise.

This will also be topped up with an increase to the pay bands. This means trainees will get an additional £2,000 after 12 months in the job.

A new banding structure has been introduced into the Petts Wood editorial department, which is being financed through departmental efficiencies.

A joint statement from the publisher of News Shopper and representatives of the NUJ chapel said: "We are delighted to have reached a settlement that will form the basis of continued good relations between the two sides."

Strike action was an option considered by the chapel in May but this was put on hold while negotiations continued.

  • NUJ members at Newsquest Bradford have voted to ballot for ruther strike. They have held 47 days of stoppages this year, but an agreement over pay has not yet been reached.
