Does movie stardom beckon for Ruth?

In a bid for super-stardom, reporter Ruth Wood met talent-spotters in Bristol as they auditioned movie star hopefuls for new film, The Guv'nor.

Casting directors are searching for the best undiscovered acting talent for the production dubbed the 'People's Film', which will see 86 main characters and 2,000 extras recruited after a nationwide search.

And as part of that search, a roadshow was held at The Works nightclub in Bristol where, with at least 50 people from the city guaranteed a part in the movie, Ruth was determined to try her luck.

After waiting for her turn for an interview with producer Patrick Barber, the Western Daily Press journalist found herself grinning inanely at the camera like a rabbit caught in the headlights.

So Ruth, why do you want to be famous?" asked Patrick.

"Well Patrick," Ruth replied, flashing her best smile.

"My mum used to say if I was famous I'd never be able to fit my big head through the door. I want to see if she was right."

Not quite convinced, Patrick asked why she should be given a part in the film.

Ruth said: "Because I'm feisty and confident and outgoing and I watch Eastenders... a lot."

She also explained how she is a good team player - working on the Western Daily Press for the past three years is proof of that.

So will Ruth be seeing her name in lights?

After her interview she received a registration card and her name has been added to a database ready for auditions in the autumn.

  • A television documentary about the roadshows, auditions and making of the film about the late East End boxer-turned-actor Lenny McLean is also being produced.
